Elementary Curriculum

Reading - Our elementary school utilizes the McGraw-Hill Wonders Reading series as a support to our Guided Reading Curriculum. Our library is equipped with a leveled Fountas-Pinnell book room to supplement our reading program. The district also uses Reader's Theater, tons of hands-on activities to support reading skills, and Learning A to Z.

Math - Grades K-5 are using the Houghton-Mifflin Math Expressions and grades 6-8 are using Houghton Mifflin Big Ideas Math. Both curricula engage students with many hands-on activities and help in understanding, use, and retention of mathematical information.

Social Studies - In 6th grade, students are using the digital curriculum written by the Minnesota Historical Society.

Physical Education -

Heart Rate Monitors
The junior high is participating in the IHT Challenge again this year!!! As a school, these kids have been nationally ranked for 3 years, in target heart rate time, in physical education class! Last year's 8th-grade class got 3rd in the nation! That is amazing! This year's eighth grade will be starting the challenge soon! We will keep you posted....

MOVE STRONG
Fifth and Sixth Graders have new pedometers this year. These pedometers are custom to their target moderate to vigorous physical activity. They can monitor how much time they are in this activity range and check how many steps they achieve in 24 minutes of activity. Make sure to ask your student what their pedometer score was today. Studies show the move you move, the more your brain works....Something to think about!

Intro to Kinesiology
Welcome to Intro of Kinesiology, the study of muscles, bones, and movement. This class is offered as a College in the High School class where the student will receive an elective credit from Northland Community and Technical College in Thief River Falls MN.
